THOROUGH PREPARATION

It’s the most important step on the ladder to painting success and why seasoned painters will often say ‘Prep is 80% of the job’. It takes a lot of hard work and patience – no wonder why those cowboys who are so ‘quick on the draw’ for their paint brush only end up with a paint job that lasts for NEVER! Preparation is painting law and you need to know whoever is painting your home is there to uphold it!

Thorough preparation is what sets us apart from companies who work on a low quality/high production business model. Our extensive prep work includes (but is not limited to) power-washing, scraping loose paint, sanding, filling holes/defects, sealing gaps, replacing missing window putty, treating rust, priming, and undercoating.

Essentially a jacket, paint coatings are responsible for protecting your home from our beautiful yet fickle Auckland weather. With good amounts of sun, rain and humidity all in one day, our ‘city of sails’ can really test the integrity of your home, which is why it’s important to have a paint coating that can take a beating.

At Auckland City Painters we don’t cut corners…we paint them and only using premium quality paints that have been proven to withstand our kiwi climate. We use and recommend Resene paints and also have trade accounts with Dulux and other reputable brands if specified. What we won’t use is low quality or inferior paint and products which compromise the quality and longevity of our work.

FAQ’s

Do you supply the paint?

Yes. Our trade accounts enable huge savings over the normal retail cost of paint. It also means we do all the running around so you don’t have to.

Do you provide the scaffolding?

Yes. We have mobile scaffolding as well as our own trusted scaffold contractor to install fixed scaffolding for the larger or tricky areas. Sorted!

What paint do you use?

In general we use and recommend Resene paints but also have trade accounts with Dulux and other reputable brands. Should you have another specification we are happy to accommodate. What we won’t use is low quality or inferior paint and products which compromise the quality and longevity of our work.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes. Our $2,000,000 public liability insurance is endorsed by Master Painters NZ and includes extensions specific to house painting.

Can you help with colour?

Yes! To thank you for choosing to work with us we will arrange a professional colour consultant to come to your home and help you make the right choice! (*offer applies only when using Resene paints)

How about paint stripping of older homes?

Yes, we are accredited with Master Painters for safe lead-based paint removal which is reassurance that we have the training and experience to ensure the health and safety of both your family and our staff

Do you offer any guarantee?

Yes. All our work is backed by Our 5 Star Guarantee and by choosing a Master Painter you are also eligible to apply for the 5 Year Workmanship Guarantee* exclusive to registered members such as us.

How many coats?

Our rule of thumb is however many coats are specified by the paint manufacturer is what we will apply because by doing anything less is to void your paint warranty.

Generally this means a 3 coat system for new work and a 2 coat system for repaints.
All our quotes are individualised so you will receive a clear outline of the prep and number of coats required on each aspect of your home.
